Utilization of different nitrogen sources by the marine cyanobacteria Prochlorococcus and Synechococcus
Prochlorococcus is the most abundant phytoplankter throughout the photic zone in stratified marine waters and experiences distinct gradients of light and nitrogen nutrition. Physiologically and genetically distinct Prochlorococcus ecotypes partition the water column: high-B/A (low-light adapted) ecotypes are generally restricted to the deep euphotic zone near or at the nitracline. Low-B/A (high...
متن کاملAcclimation of the Global Transcriptome of the Cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. Strain PCC 7002 to Nutrient Limitations and Different Nitrogen Sources
The unicellular, euryhaline cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. strain PCC 7002 is a model organism for laboratory-based studies of cyanobacterial metabolism and is a potential platform for biotechnological applications. Two of its most notable properties are its exceptional tolerance of high-light intensity and very rapid growth under optimal conditions. In this study, transcription profiling by ...
متن کاملLight history influences the response of the marine cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. WH7803 to oxidative stress.
Marine Synechococcus undergo a wide range of environmental stressors, especially high and variable irradiance, which may induce oxidative stress through the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). While light and ROS could act synergistically on the impairment of photosynthesis, inducing photodamage and inhibiting photosystem II repair, acclimation to high irradiance is also thought to con...
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequence of Marine Cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. Strain NKBG15041c
Synechococcus sp. strain NKBG15041c was isolated as a fast-growing marine cyanobacterium. Genetic transformation techniques using this strain have been well established for metabolic engineering. Here we report the draft genome sequence for this strain, consisting of 44 contigs containing a total of 3,180,043 bp and 3,224 putative protein-coding genes.
